Grand Central Terminal or Grand Central Station NY

Cenário para muitos filmes a super famosa Estação Central de NY.

Na verdade chama-se Grand Central Terminal mas todos a tratam por Grand Central Station que é o nome oficial da estação de correios localizada perto do terminal. I naugurado em 1903 (tem mais de um século!!!!) é considerada a maior estação ferroviária do mundo, com 44 plataformas, em dois níveis, com 41 linhas no nível superior e 26 no inferior. Em média, diariamente 125 mil pessoas viajam aqui, há 286 saídas de comboios por dia da semana (segundo o horário de Abril 2011). É a maior estação de comboios do mundo pelo número de linhas. Anualmente é visitada por 21.600.000 turistas!!!! Há imensas lojas e restaurantes espalhados por todos os andares do edifício.
Em 1983 foi classificada como Lugar Histórico nos registros nacionais dos Estados Unidos.

Actually the name is Grand Central Terminal but everyone call it by Grand Central Station which is the official name of the post office located near the terminal. It was inaugurated in 1903 (has more than a century!!) Is considered the world's largest railway station with 44 platforms on two levels, with 41 tracks on the upper level and 26 at the bottom. On average, every day 125,000 people travel here, there are 286 departures per weekday (according to April 2011 timetable). It is the largest train station in the world by the number of tracks. Every year is visited by 21.6 million tourists!! There are lots of stores and restaurants located in all floors of the building.
In 1983 he was classified as a Historic Place in national registries in the United States.

Um pouco de história

Inicialmente começa como Grand Central Depot (projectada por John B. Snook e aberta em Outubro de 1871) que unia 3 linhas de caminho de ferro numa só estação: Hudson River, Harlem e New Haven. Entre 1899 e 1900 o edifício principal foi demolido para redesenharem todo o sistema de linhas e adicionarem novas num esforço de redução do congestionamento e fazerem novos horários. O projecto deu origem à Grand Central Station. Entre 1903 e 1913 o edifício foi  substituído pelo que é agora o Grand Central Terminal, inaugurado a 2 de Fevereiro de 1913.

History

Initially it was the Grand Central Depot (designed by John B. Snook and opened in October 1871) that united three railroad lines in one big terminal: Hudson River, Harlem and New Haven. Between 1899 and 1900 the main building was demolished to redesign the entire system and add new tracks in an effort to reduce congestion and make new schedules. The project led to the Grand Central Station. Between 1903 and 1913 the building was replaced by what is now the Grand Central Terminal, opened on February 2, 1913.

Como bom turista que somos há que fazer parte da estatística e não deixar de visitar a estação central. A sensação é mesmo aquela de que já conhecemos e já estivemos no local, porque tantas vezes a vimos em filmes e séries de televisão...

As good tourists that we are, have to be part of the statistic and not miss a visit to the central station. The feeling is that we already know it and have been in that place before many times, because so often seen it in movies and television series...

Empire State Building

O Miguel esteve recentemente em Nova Iorque. Aqui fica a vista do (agora) mais alto arranha-céus de NY: o Empire State Building. A sua construção terminou em 1931 (!!!!); altura até ao telhado de 381 metros e 443.2 metros com a  antena incluída; tem 102 andares de escritórios. A vista é surpreendente; quando está bom tempo no horizonte vê-se a curvatura da terra.

Miguel was recently in New York. Here is the view from the (now) the tallest building in NY: the Empire State Building. Its construction was finished in 1931 (!!) It has a roof height of 1,250 feet (381 meters), and with its antenna spire included, it stands a total of 1,454 ft (443.2 m) high, has 102 floors of offices. The view is amazing, when good weather we can see the curvature of the earth on horizon.

Começámos ali no SPA do Corinthia Hotel Lisbon. Tinhamos direito a usufruir da Zona ACQUA. E lá fomos nós só de fato de banho na mala. Sim porque nós até experimentámos este tipo de coisas antes e sabemos que basta o fato de banho. Roupões, chinelos e toalhas estão à nossa disposição pelo SPA.

We started in the SPA at the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon. They were entitled to enjoy the ACQUA Zone. And there we went with just a swimsuit in the purse. Yes, because we tried this sort of thing before and know that we just need the swimsuit. Bathrobes, slippers and towels are available to us in the SPA.

A Zona ACQUA como o próprio nome indica é um lugar totalmente relaxante cheio de sensações dados pela água. Havia diversos tipos de chuveiros, jacuzzi, uma piscina dinâmica cheia de jactos direccionais, sauna, banho turco e mais zonas de água fria com chuveiro de balde, lago gelado e fonte de gelo...

ACQUA Zone as its name indicates is a totally relaxing place full of sensations given by the water. There were several types of showers, jacuzzi, a swimming pool full of dynamic directional jets, sauna, Turkish bath and more areas of cold water with shower bucket, frozen lake and ice fountain...

E assim foi de uma lado pró outro e depois descansar numa das chaise lounge disponíveis e beber um chazinho. Que Isto de uma piscina para a outra cansa muito!!!

And so we were from one place to another and lying on a chaise lounge and drink some tea. Going in and out of the pools is very tired!

Para quem não sabe a Pousada de Queluz, D. Maria I fica mesmo em frente ao Palácio. O edificio, denominado Torre do Relógio, foi antigamente a zona dos aposentos do pessoal ao serviço da Corte Real que, então, utilizava o Palácio como residência de Verão.

Then towards the Hotel Pousada de Queluz where we expect a snack! The water opens our appetite ...
For those who don't know the Pousada de Queluz, D. Maria I is located just opposite to the Palace. The building, called the Clock Tower, was once the quarters of the employees working for the Royal Court, which then used the Palace as a summer residence.

Na sala/bar ofereceram-nos um lanche que incluia o café com leite, a torrada, o croissant misto, fatias de bolo e bolinhos....nham nham nham. Estavámos nós a sentir solinho que entrava pela janela, a ver TV e ler as revistas e jornais do dia disponíveis e a comer.

In the lounge/bar room was offer to us a snack that included milk with coffee, toast, mix croissant (cheese and ham), slices of cake and cookies.... nham nham nham. Feeling the sun coming through the window, watching TV and reading magazines and daily newspapers available and eating.

Vida boa... TÃO BOA....Venham mais ofertas destas :P
