Em pleno centro de Boston, no bairro típico de Beacon Hill, uma antiga prisão foi transformada num moderno e luxuoso hotel que, com um toque de humor, mantém viva as memórias da sua anterior função. Durante mais de um século, este foi um dos locais a evitar em Boston, onde gerações de criminosos cumpriram pena, mas hoje é um dos sítios da moda na capital do Massachusetts. O hotel foi inaugurado em 2007 e à construção original foi acrescentada uma ala totalmente nova. O interior e a decoração são da autoria da designer de origem portuguesa Alexandra Champalimaud.

In the heart of Boston, in the typical neighborhood of Beacon Hill, a former prison has been transformed into a modern and luxurious hotel, with a touch of humor, keeps alive the memories of their previous function. For over a century, this was one of the places to avoid in Boston, where generations of criminals served time, but today is one of the fashion sites in  Massachusetts. The hotel was opened in 2007 and the original building was added a completely new wing. The interior and decorations are the work of Portuguese origin designer Alexandra Champalimaud.

Um hotel de Brighton, no Sul de Inglaterra, conhecido pelos seus quartos temáticos. O mais recente chama-se Do Knit Disturb, totalmente feito em tricô. Desenhado (e tricotado) pela artista local Kate Jenkins, que dedicou mais de um mês a conceber o espaço que reúne os elementos mais característicos da marca Cardigan, criada por ela própria.

A hotel in Brighton, southern England, known for its themed rooms. The latest is called The Knit Disturb, completely covered in knitting. Designed (and knit) by local artist Kate Jenkins, who spent more than a month to design the space that brings together the most characteristic elements of the brand Cardigan, created by herself.

No topo da pirâmide | At the top of the pyramid

No meio da selva erguem-se as ruinas de uma grande cidade, Cobá. Só parte da cidade foi limpa para ser visitada pelos turistas. Se vale a pena ir ver?! Para mim valeu que sou apaixonada pelas civilizações antigas e pela sua história. Mas são ruinas...que nos mostram parte da sua história.

O monumento principal é a pirâmide de Nohoch Mul ou o “Castillo”, com 42 metros de altura. E pode-se subir, aliás não sei se se consegue ver pela foto, mas tem uma corda a meio para ajudar na subida. A subida ainda se faz mais ou menos, é muito a pique mas com a ajuda das mãos lá se chega ao topo. Agora a descer custa, prinicipalmente quem tem tendência a vertigens. No topo consegue-se vislumbrar a copas das árvores....

A cidade Cobá era enorme e as ruínas estão espalhadas pela floresta...como chegar à pirâmide? Ou se anda ainda uns 2 km até ao centro da cidade para a subir ou com poucos dólares paga-se por um "táxi". Uma bicicleta que puxa um reboque onde dá para duas pessoas, pedalada por alguém. O senhor espera para nos levar de volta. :)

In the middle of the forest stand the ruins of a great city, Coba. Only part of the city was cleared to be visited by tourists. If it's worth going to see?! For me it was...I am passionate by ancient civilizations and their history. But they are only ruins... showing us its history.

The main monument is the Nohoch Mul pyramid or the "Castillo", with 42 meters high. And you can climb it, in fact I do not know if you can see on the photo, but it has a rope to help through. Going up it's OK, you can use your hands to reach the top. Now, to came down... specially who has a tendency to vertigo. At the top it is possible to glimpse the tops of the trees ....

The city was huge and Coba ruins are scattered through the forest ... how to reach the pyramid? Or walking about 2 km to the city center or for a few dollars you can get a "cab". A bicycle with a trailer where you can fit two people being pull by someone. They will wait to take you back. :)

Ruínas à beira do Mar das Caraíbas | Ruins on the edge of the Caribbean Sea

Adoro as civilizações antigas. Estudei história de arte e talvez por isso me fascinam imenso. Eram altamente avançadas para a época. Sempre questionei o que aconteceu visto que parece que regredimos na evolução e começamos outra vez do zero.

Em Outubro de 2003 quando fomos ao México, visitamos Tulum, uma antiga cidade/muralha Maya. Situada ao longo da costa do Mar das Caraíbas. A praia atrás de nós na foto foi onde filmaram parte do filme "Piratas das Caraíbas".

A cidade de Cobá utilizava Tulum como porto de pesca e como porto comercial, para as trocas efectuadas com as cidades da região.Tulum é uma cidade arqueológica cheia de história e cultura Maia. Não tem lojas, nem restaurantes, nem botecos, são ruínas. Imaginem o espanto dos conquistadores espanhóis ao chegarem a terras mexicanas e encontrar um enorme palácio de pedra cintilando numa praia banhada por águas transparentes? É o que vai sentir também.

Recomendo a visita bem pela manhã (o mais cedo possível) para evitar a quantidade de turistas e famílias a correrem pelas ruínas. Não se pode subir nem visitar por dentro, apenas olhar a uns metros de distância.

I love ancient civilizations. I studied art history and perhaps that's why it fascinates me a lot. They were highly advanced for its time. Always wondered what happened because it seems that we regress in evolution and started again from scratch.

In October 2003 we went to Mexico and visited Tulum, an ancient city Maya. Situated along the coast of the Caribbean Sea. The beach behind us in the photo was where they filmed part of the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean".

The town of Coba used Tulum as a fishing and commercial port as to the exchanges made with the cities of the região.Tulum is an archaeological city full of history and Mayan culture. It has no shops, no restaurants or bars, are ruins. Imagine the astonishment of the Spanish conquistadors arrived in Mexico and find a huge stone palace on a beach lapped by sparkling clear water? That will feel it too.

I recommend a visit in the morning (as early as possible) to avoid the number of tourists and families through the ruins. You can not climb or visit inside, just look at a few meters away.

Um parque temático natural | A natural theme park

O nosso primeiro OUT juntos foi ao México, Riviera Maya. Lindo.

O Verão já começa a espreitar e faz-me lembrar XEL-HÁ. Nunca me vou esquecer do dia em que fomos a este parque temático natural, que não é mais que um grande aquário. A entrada dá direito à pulseirinha que nos dá acesso a quase tudo, apenas alguma actividades têm custo adicional.

Foi aqui que fiz mergulho pela primeira vez e nadámos com os golfinhos. Têm uma zona de descanso com redes e claro está dei um grande tombo ao tentar deitar-me. Os peixes andam ao nosso redor...

O parque é maravilhoso e não há palavras que o consigam descrever. Deixo-vos alguns vídeos para vos aguçar o apetite. Se forem ao México não deixem de visitar um deste parques, é OBRIGATÓRIO. Uma experiênca única.

Our first OUT together was to Mexico, Riviera Maya. Beautiful.

The summer is starting to appear and reminds me of Xel-Ha. I'll never forget the day we went to this natural theme park, which is nothing but a large aquarium. The entrance gives you the bracelet with access to almost everything, just some activities carry an additional cost.

It was here that I did snorkeling and swim with the dolphins for the first time. They have a resting area with hammocks and of course gave a big tumble while trying to lie down. The fish swin around us ...

The park is wonderful and there are no words to describe it. I leave with you some videos and photos. If going to Mexico does not miss visiting one of these parks, you MUST. It's an unique experience.
